The Designers Series: #2- Vintage: Timeless classic

Our Senior Designer, Jenny McCluskey, uses a touch of vintage flair in her latest design.

Vintage defines items that are 20 years or older but less than 100. Furniture, lighting, fabrics, and colour palette demonstrate the quality and craftmanship of a specific era.

“My favourite time of year is Spring. From the first sign of crocuses to the pink cherry blossoms that fill Edinburgh’s Middle Meadow Walk. This is when I find myself being drawn to the 50’s where you often find neutral and pastel colours such as pink, mint green, delicate blues and cream. For me, that era evokes elegance and romance, like Audrey Hepburn. And whether in fashion or interior design, it is not unusual to find these colours mixed with nature; floral patterns, botanicals, birds, and butterflies.”

Pierre Frey Wallpaper

With fresh, pastel colours in mind, I am drawn to one of my favourite wallpapers ‘Nids Jolis’. It depicts joyous birds on a spring day and is reproduced from a 1951 watercolour in the Pierre Frey Archive. This charming wallpaper can’t help but put a smile on your face.

Playing with the scale of patterns is a great way to ensure fabrics aren’t overpowered by one another. This floral design has been printed on a beautiful pale blue quality cotton which is the perfect fabric for a crisp roman blind.

Just the right shade of green to sit with the luscious leaves of the wallpaper. This subtle coral design has a twill weave structure and delicate sheen. It will make a fantastic box cushion for a window seat and allow for more seating.

Upholstered dining chairs are a great way to add colour and texture. Contrasting piping helps to bring a bit of fun and tie together a colour scheme. The brass details on the legs are an elegant finishing touch.

Our rustic table has been an Acanthus favourite for years. Made from reclaimed pine, each piece is unique.

The perfect light fitting for the kitchen! Doubling up as a shelf, it is fantastic for displaying herbs and spices whilst also lighting up your dining table or kitchen island.

No room is complete without a little greenery. Our artificial clover can lift even the darkest of corners.

And to complete your design, the beautiful shades from Andrew Martin; Constantinople (pink), Saharan Skies  (blue), Guatemalan Jungle (green).
